Mental Health and Wellbeing

At our school we know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times, anyone may need additional emotional support. We take the view that positive mental health is everybody’s business and that we all have a role to play. The following resources may be useful for parents to explore to support good mental health and wellbeing at home.

Managing big feelings

We all experience a wide range of emotions throughout the day and while none of them are wrong, some can feel uncomfortable. Learning to regulate our emotions is a skill to be learned, just like any other. Before a child can self regulate they need help from an adult to co-regulate and practise the strategies and tools that work for them. At our school we use the Zones of Regulation and 5 point scales to help categorise emotions and provide tools to help children learn to manage big feelings. If you would like more information on how to use these please ask school staff.
