Growing Excellence, Inspiring Success

Nursery

Welcome to our Nursery, part of our Early Years Foundation Stage

At Ladygrove Park, in our Early Years setting, we aim to support the children by;

  • Providing an enabling environment, so that they will develop and practise their skills, develop their own interests, creativity and independence;
  • Building positive relationships with peers and adults, so that they will feel safe, develop their confidence and resilience to be able to collaborate with others;
  • Providing rich experiences to encourage children's curiosity, so that children deepen their understanding of our culturally, socially, technologically and ecologically diverse world;
  • Participating in quality interactions within a language rich environment, so that the children will grow their vocabulary and develop early language skills and communicate effectively;
  • Sharing aspirational expectations, so that children are challenged to move their thinking and learning on to their next steps and are able to build on their prior knowledge and make links to new learning.

"We are a team and we work hard together. We are all equal to each other."

Tim Peake (first British astronaut to visit the International Space Station)

During this term, our theme is ‘What’s in my garden?’’ and the children will be learning about growth and change through growing their own bean plant and cress. We will be looking at plants and life cycles of some animals, including being involved in the observation and care for our ‘Hatching Chicks’ project with Class 2 and 3. We also have a lovely experience of some farm animals coming to visit our school.

We will be going on ‘Bug Hunts’ in our garden and Nature area and discussing the importance of some of these creatures and how they support the environment.

We will also be planting our own seeds as well as tending to our vegetable garden and observing the growth, talking about what plants need grow. We will be reading some related stories to support this such as; Jaspers Beanstalk, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Mad About Minibeasts.

Our Big Idea this term is Change and how change occurs in plants and animals and how it may be affected by us.
For our Role Model focus we will be discussing Farmers provide our food and why farmers are important.
